DeWine said last month 100,000 people had it in Ohio.  Nearly a month later it just went over 5,000. He said during the peak would be 10,000 new cases per day now the prediction is down to 1,600. Keep in mind the other numbers were with mitigation  and social distancing not without.

The problem is they aren't doing mass testing yet.  There might be 100-200K that have it in Ohio but no one knows because they haven't been tested for it.   Those asymptomatic people are the problem because they are carriers and don't know it and when the stay at home order stops they will be going out and infecting people unaware that they are hurting others.

--- Quote from: penguinpower on April 08, 2020, 07:29:22 AM ---Before I have to correct the retards on the board let me begin by stating the facts.  The seasonal flu death rate iin the US is higher than the Coronavirus death rates based on the statistics available as of April 6th.

That being said, from April 2009 to April 2010 60.8 million Americans contracted the H1N1 flu. 274,000 were hospitalized, 12,500 died.  It was not  a crisis until 1,000 people died in October of that year. The government was unprepared and did not have the vaccinations made despite having a vaccination in place. There was no panic and we did not shut down the economy.  As of this morning there have been 12,857 deaths. Here is the backup: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm

There are a few things that I was unaware of that are major factors in this issue and it has made a big difference in why we have to have this bullsh** quarantine.

#1 hospital consolidation over the last 10 years has taken away the capacity to handle higher patient loads.
Hospital consolidation rationalization can be found here as a good high level overview.

https://pnhp.org/news/hospital-consolidation-and-the-affordable-care-act/

#2 We no longer make our own drugs and have little control of the Supply chain. Even if we wanted to get the drugs at this point we cannot get them because China is using them on it's own citizens.

#3. We don't make our own PPE to protect healthcare workers and citizens.

Now that that has been said, let's talk about the death rates.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-rates-us-by-state/

The worst death rate is in NY at 28 per 100,000 people which is a death rate of 0.028%. The seasonal flu has a death rate of 0.11%  Whic one is worse?  The ******* flu is worse.  This disease is just more contagious so it has a better reach into society.

Here is the data from the CDC on the Flu.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm

However, we are going to shut down the economy a d possibly cause a depression over this virus. This thing is already worse than the 2008 economic crisis and it was self induced.  Totally unacceptable to me.  They need to get the economy back up and running.  This 2 week event is going to kill more people due to economic outcomes than it will from the flu itself. It is ******* ridiculous and retarded.

Going off of CDC death rate information for the state of NY from 2018 (most recent year CDC has with data) for full year 2018 NY was at 18.4 deaths per 100,000 people for the flu. Source below.

You have just provided evidence that NY death rate is 28 per 100,000 so far for COVID19.

Would that not suggest that this is more deadly than the flu?

Not if the historical flu death rate is 0.11%.

Try not to the word "retard" against those that are misguided, ignorant, or may share an opinion different than our own. Retardation refers to those that have MR (mental retardation). In fact I am not that certain that "MR" is "PC" anymore.

Yes it does. But if he wants to die on this hill rather than be proven wrong, let him.
