Madyson Marx has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and bowling career at Youngstown State University, Penguins head coach Doug Kuberski announced on Monday.

Marx, a native of Maplewood, Minn., near St. Paul, is the second member of YSU’s signing class that will be freshmen in the fall. She joins Tallmadge, Ohio, native Kirsten Moore, who signed in November. Marx plans to study criminal justice at Youngstown State.

“From the moment Madyson and I first spoke, I could sense a special energy that would fit perfectly with what we are building at YSU,” Kuberski said. “She comes from an amazing bowling family, and she has thrived in a very competitive bowling area and in some of the toughest competitions throughout her high school and youth career. With her elite athleticism, high bowling IQ and strong work ethic, Madyson has a very bright future. We are thrilled she has chosen to continue her academic and athletic pursuits at YSU.

Marx has built an impressive list of accomplishments while competing at St. Croix Preparatory Academy and on the Minnesota Junior Bowlers Tour. She was named the top female bowler in St. Paul in 2018, and she was a first-team all-state honoree in 2019. Additionally, she helped lead St. Croix to two state titles. Bowling sport shot on the MJBT, she placed in the top three at tournaments in each of the last seven months with victories in September, November and February. Her highest career game is 287, and her highest three-game set is 734.

Youngstown State is ranked tied-for-eighth in February’s National Tenpin Coaches Association Top 25 poll. The Penguins have two tournaments remaining before competing at the Southland Bowling League Championships on March 20-22.
