YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State football coach Bo Pelini has gotten around to signing that contract extension, the head coach confirmed Monday.

Pelini said after practice that he wasn’t sure what the exact terms of his deal were. Sources have told The Vindicator that Pelini’s extension will be for the next three seasons, with his salary being “comparable” to what he had in the initial four-year deal that he signed prior to the 2015 season. His original deal called for an annual salary of $213,894. The contract is pending final approval from YSU president Jim Tressel.

Athletic director Ron Strollo said he couldn’t confirm or deny the status of Pelini’s deal.

The Cardinal Mooney graduate returned to his hometown after getting ousted from as Nebraksa’s head football coach in 2014. He was given $7.65 in buyout money. His original deal with YSU expired on Feb. 28, which was the same day Nebraska no longer owed Pelini buyout money.

Pelini is 27-22 at YSU and went 4-7 last season.
