Three time All-American Chad Zallow and junior Jaliyah Elliott will return to the track on Friday night at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Zallow will compete in the 60m hurdles while Elliott will run in the 60m dash from the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. Zallow's semifinal race is scheduled for 7:17 p.m. Eastern time, while Elliott will run her semifinal race at 7:57 EST.
ESPN3 will stream the championships live starting at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time on March 8 and starting at 5 p.m. Eastern time on March 9. A re-air of the championship will take place starting at 10 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, March 10 on ESPN2 and again Monday, March 11 starting at 10 p.m. Eastern time on ESPNU.
At last years championships, Zallow garnered a fifth place finish en route to earning first-team All-American status. Zallow ran time of 7.75 seconds in the semifinals before turning in a time of 7.720 seconds in the finals. Florida's Grant Holloway won his second consecutive title after finishing in a time of 7.47 seconds.
As sophomore in 2017, Zallow placed third and earned first-team All-American honors. He was a second-team All-American as a freshman in 2016.
Zallow, who is competing in his fourth consecutive NCAA Indoor Championships, will run in the first heat of the 60m hurdles. He holds the second fastest time in the heat behind Halloway, who comes in with a time of 7.43 seconds. Zallow will also compete against Georgia's Michael Nicholls (7.67 seconds), Florida's Cory Poolea (7.73 seconds), Southern Mississippi's Claeb Parker (7.73 seconds), Iowa's Chris Douglas (7.75 seconds), North Carolina A&T's Michael Dickson (7.75 seconds) and South Carolina's Isaiah Moore (7.76 seconds) in his heat. In the second heat, Kentucky's Daniel Roberts (7.48 seconds) and Florida's State Trey Cunningham (7.53 seconds) posted the only times below 7.67 seconds.
Elliott enters her first championship experience with the 15th fastest time in the NCAA in the 60m dash with a time of 7.25 seconds. Elliott is coming off a breakout indoor season which saw her win her first Horizon League Championship in the 200m dash and second title in the 60m. This season, she also set school records in the 60m dash with a time of 7.25 seconds and 200m dash (23.85 seconds).
Elliott will run out of lane one and will compete against LSU's Kortneti Johnson (7.14 seconds), USC's Twanisha Terry (7.17 seconds), LSU's Sha'Carri Richardson (7.20 seconds), Norfolk State's Kiara Grant (7.22 seconds), Alabama's Tamara Clark (7.23 seconds), Florida State's Jayla Kirkland (7.25 seconds), and SMU's Chelsea Francis (7.26 seconds) in her heat. Six of the eight runners in the second heat have times of 7.24 seconds or below.
