From my observations, it seems as if Wolford was one heck of a recruiter (top notch), and Pelini is one heck of a coach. Unfortunately you typically don't get both. Look at when we were in the FCS Championship (most of the players were Wolf's) but were coached by Pelini. A lot also has to be said about the assistants. Wolf could recruit them as well (Mangino for example), unfortunately is seems that Pelini seems to be lacking in that department as well.
Just some food for thought as they both are local guys with the same 'local homeboys'.

In a perfect world,,,, Bring Tress out of his President office, Bo to DC, and Wolf as recruiting coordinator  8)

I always thought the best recruiter OSU ever had was John Cooper.  On game day, he couldn't hold a candle to Tressel, but he was a great recruiter.  (JT's 2002/3 national championship was mostly Coop recruits)
ysubigred, to say you're stretching things a bit would be an understatement.  Why not have Jaws come back and QB with Tamron as RB?

Then he booted so many players his first year, it scared off recruits. Then when we were able to land coach Shane we were losing games while putting up record numbers on offense. Look at the numbers, there is not one Wolf era top-9 player in Tackles, Solo Tackles, Assists, Sacks, Break-ups. One thing that I will say about Bo ...I think that he is used to top-notch recruits (and recruiting staff) at Nebraska. The average recruit at out level needs work. I am not sure that Bo and staff put enough into the fundamentals. If Tress came back, to the sidelines, I would like to think that he would hire Heacock before Bo. Heacock brings MVFC history. They are Complimenting coaches & less chance of conflict.

And Montgomery put up yards agathe little sisters of the poor but couldn't score on elite teams either.  Those are the facts take it or leave it.  Now we have an OC woth no scheme.  Montgomery had a short yardage death by a thousand cuts strategy that allowed defenses to load the box and shut down the entire thing.  The only time I saw it change was during the run to the NC with Bo.  Wells threw deep passes and we won a lot of games.  That being said, I watched us piss down out legs way too many times to offset one good season

IAA Fan:
Power, you are making my point. Saying that we could not score against good teams is simply not the truth. Your team is not always going to make its average of 34.8 PPG. That would obviously be against the better teams. My real point was that we never had any defense to pick up the slack, in 7 of the 8 years that coach Shane was here. BTW, I do not think any team should be winning games on offense. This is YSU and we play in the MVFC. You don't see NDSU winning games on offense. We need to shut down opponents, not beat them to the finish line. Keeping your opponent out of the end-zone is just as important as scoring. IMO, much more important. If I am playing SDSU next week, I know they have the #2 defense in the league (allowing an average of only 23 PPG), so I am not expecting to get 34.8 points ...maybe 24 or 21. That is perfectly normal and if your defense cannot keep SDSU below 21, then we are going to lose.

Look at 2010, that was just a random pick, but we did have that mistake Kravitz as a DC, the guy that everyone was excited about ... Mr Florida/SEC.

We average 31.27 PPG on offense and 31.55 PPG on defense. In 5 games, we scored more points than we did against Butler that same season. We had 4 really good drives at Penn State and 14-points. We scored 31 against SIU and almost lost as SIU missed a FG to tie. We scored 25 against SMS, but gave up 35 (and I am willing to admit that 25 was below average & we did have a TO). We scored 38 against WIU and gave up 40. Scored 30 against UNI and gave up 34. I am willing to admit that Hess had a terrible game (4 INT's) against a decent ISU, but we gave up just under 500-yards on defense. Yes, it would have been close, but 24-points should have won that game. All but 1 of ISU's scores followed turn overs.

mvfc penguin:
We can go back and forth about assitant coaches all day long. Who had better ones, whose were worse. At the end of the day Pelini made it to the NC with almost all of Wolfs players and has done NOTHING with his guys.
