Indianapolis, Ind. -- Four Youngstown State softball players were named to the 2018 Horizon League All-League Teams after a vote of the league's head coaches, the Horizon League announced on Tuesday.
Junior Lexi Zappitelli was earned All-Horizon League First-Team honors while sophomore Maddi Lusk and freshman Elle Buffenbarger and Yazmine Romero was named to the second-team. Buffenbarger and Romero were also named to the All-Freshman Team.
Zappitelli, who batted. 402 in the regular season, ranked second in the league in batting average, slugging percentage (.615) and on-base percentage (.482). She also ranked third in doubles (13) and triples (3) and ranks ninth in hits (47), tied for seventh in runs scored (27). Zappitelli's award marks the fifth straight year a YSU player was selected to the first-team.
Lusk, the 2017 co-Freshman of the Year and second-team all-league pick, batted .338 with three home runs and 15 RBIs in league play. Overall, Lusk is batting .319 with 14 doubles and ranks third in the league with 34 runs batted in. She is also second in the league in doubles.
Buffenbarger has six wins and 75 strikeouts in league play. She Ranks third in the league with 119 strikeouts and owns an overall record of 9-7. Her 119 strikeouts rank seventh on the YSU single-season chart.
Romero, who is batting .392, ranks second in the league in hits with 62 and fourth in batting average. She set the YSU freshman single-season hits record. She leads the team and ranks fitth in the league in runs scored and is tied for eighth stolen bases.
The Penguins face sixth-seeded IUPUI in the first round of the Horizon League Championship, Wednesday, May 9, at 3:30 p.m. ET.
