Chelsea Olson Named Horizon League Freshman of the Week
« on: January 22, 2018, 10:13:14 PM »
Youngstown State's Chelsea Olson has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week following her performance in the Penguins' win at Cleveland State on Saturday, the conference office announced.

Olson, a native of Westby, Wis., averaged 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field in two games last week for YSU. After scoring seven points at Wright State last Monday, she carried the Penguins to victory against Cleveland State on Saturday. Olson scored 26 points against the Vikings, the most by a Horizon League freshman this season and the highest total by a Penguins freshman since 1995.

Olson had 20 of her game and career-high 26 points in the second half as YSU outscored the Vikings 44-29 over the final 20 minutes to win 66-52. With the Penguins down a pair of starting guards due to injury, she was 5-for-5 from the field, 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 7-for-9 from the free-throw line in the second half. She added eight rebounds in helping the Penguins snap a four-game losing streak at Cleveland State.

For the year, Olson ranks fifth on the team in scoring at 6.7 points per game. She has made 24 3-pointers while adding 57 rebounds, 17 assists, 13 blocks and eight steals. Her .422 field-goal percentage is the best among YSU's guards, and her .387 clip from 3-point range tops the squad.

Youngstown State will play a pair of home games this week, hosting Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Wright State at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
