Youngstown State catcher Lou Cardona has been voted to the 2017 Horizon League All-Freshman Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Cardona, a native of Boardman, Ohio, played in 43 of YSU's 55 games and made 23 starts in his first year for the Penguins. He batted .253 with 10 runs scored and 10 RBIs overall, and he hit .286 in Horizon League play. The freshman backstop had nine multi-hit games, including a pair of three-hit contests.
Cardona is the first YSU catcher to earn postseason conference accolades since Josh White was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team and Second-Team in 2013.
