The Youngstown State women's basketball program had four standouts from four different states sign National Letters of Intent last November to join the team beginning in the 2017-18 season. Below is a summary of the accomplishments of Amara Chikwe, Chelsea Olson, McKenah Peters and Anne Secrest during their senior seasons.
Amara Chikwe
Battled through a knee injury all season, which limited the number of games she played in... Was named one of the top 100 girls basketball players in Michigan by the Detroit Free Press in December.
Chelsea Olson
Earned Honorable Mention all-state accolades by the associated press and the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association... Named the Coulee Conference Athlete of the Year and first-team all-conference... Ranked sixth in scoring across all divisions in Wisconsin at 24.7 points per game... Led Westby to the Wisconsin Division 3 regional title game... Was a finalist for an award recognizing the top senior shooter in Wisconsin... Broke her high school's all-time scoring record for boys or girls, which had stood for 20 years... Finished her career with 1,725 points.
McKenah Peters
Named First-Team All-Ohio and the Northeast Lakes District Player of the Year at the Division II level... Shared the Lorain County Miss Basketball Award... Averaged 25.3 points, seven rebounds, two assists and 2.6 steals as Keystone went 20-4... Made 81 3-pointers while shooting 43.4 percent overall from the floor... Had a memorable senior night when she Keystone's career record for points by a male or female and broke the Lorain County girls scoring record that had stood for more than 20 years... Scored a career-high 39 points in the contest.
Anne Secrest
Named First-Team Academic All-State by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association... Named to Indiana's Supreme 15 Team... Was one of 60 seniors in the state to participate in the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Senior Workouts... Set the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball scoring record in leading the Vikings to their third straight Three Rivers Conference title... Named First-Team All-TRC as Valley won 28 straight conference games... Valley finished with a 22-5 record and a berth in the regional semifinals of the state tournament... Played in the North/South Indiana All-Star Classic.
