The Youngstown State women’s bowling team earned a win over #10 Central Missouri in Friday’s round of Baker matches at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic. The tournament is being hosted by Valparaiso at the Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tenn.

The Penguins went 1-4 in their five Baker matches, and they finished the day ranking 20th in total pins in the 35-team field. Youngstown State knocked down 4,481 pins in their five matches for an average of 896.2 per round and 179.2 per game. YSU sits ahead of four teams ranking in the NTCA Top 25 heading into Saturday’s round of five traditional matches.

Youngstown State’s highest-scoring match of the day came in its 926-847 win over the Jennies. YSU also topped 900 in a narrow 923-912 loss to No. 18 North Carolina A&T. The Penguins’ other losses came to Howard (943-888), No. 8 UMES (1,004-871) and Maryville (955-84). YSU’s highest game was 222 against Maryville.

YSU will bowl against Lincoln Memorial, Texas Southern, Jackson State and No. 4 Sam Houston State and have a bye on Saturday. The round of traditional matches will begin at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
