Men's B-ball UIC 92-YSU 89 ot

Very frustrating watching this team.    The defense is pathetic.   Not sure why we're not playing zone since some of the guys are just being abused off the the dribble.  UIC down to their 3rd string big and the guy can only pop from the three and our big is no where near him.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I watched on ESPN3. They were awful. They could not shoot the outside shots, shoot the free throws, stop the layups, and make the layups. I was not sure what defense they were playing. It was really painful to watch..... I have been watching the team for almost 50 years since my freshman year at the university. I probably will not go to another game until they get a new coach.

Double ET,you got me beat.   I started going to YSU games in 1973.   They started alot of frosh that season.

Terry Moore pg
Tony Mitchel small forward
Gary Anderson 6-8 post

Phil Gaston and Johnny Reed were probably the other starters.   Jeff Covington and Gerald parks came the following year.   70s Talent > today's.

During the Covington years of four decades ago (yikes,) Division I was still relatively small and most of the programs that would be classified today as DI mid-major were playing in D2.  Those players from the seventies were definitely superior to the guys on Slocum's roster today.  And there is evidence of that: a win against Pittsburgh and a 2 point loss to a number two ranked West Virginia.

Ah yes, Jerry Slocum....the invincible man.  Since Stollo has been the athletic director, he has fired two football coaches, hired and then fired two amazingly incompetent women's basketball coaches, fired John Robic, and fired a large sample of Olympic program coaches.  Yet Slocum endures....a testament to something, but I have no idea what.

On a more positive note, the women struggled against a bad team but prevailed again today.  For those that do not know, they have suffered unbelievable season ending injuries to three starters, including their two best players.  Forced to play many freshmen, they will be good again next season, assuming that the injured all heal properly.

What the hell happened to all the defense this team supposedly practiced all preseason? This team is in desperate need of a new voice, and needs to stop losing two to three players off the team every year!

You missed out on the 2 of the best shooters... John McCloroy (scoring 72 points in one game). How was followed by Billy Johnson.
I remembered Phil Gaston with his baseline turn around jump shots and John Reed's high arcing outside shots.
We stuffed the ballot box for Jeff Covinton so he made the all star team.

Those were the days my friend.

We play absolutely no defense. This is been ongoing for the past 10 years. Free throw shooting stinks enthusiasm stinks. Slocum needs to go. Attendance is less than 2000 per game and that's generous. I was at the game I will never attend another game until they get rid of so come as well. Step up to the plate and get rid of him

Firing Geri Slocum is not the answer...unless you also fire Strollo.  Strollo hired Slocum, renewed his contract several times, hired Hill, hired Martin, and in FB renewed Heacock's contract and tried to hire EKU HC Dean Hood to be our current HC.  Strollo will use the same paucity of intellect to chose the new HC.  I really want to see MBB someday go to the dance, but to accomplish that, and for multiple other reasons, we need a new AD.

If not firing Slocum is the answer then you must want to keep losing. This is pathetic what some people think. He sucks as a coach. The program is in shambles win-loss wise. Just look at the bench when we play no enthusiasm. Reflection of the coach. If you guys want him then we will continue to lose. And no fans

MBB will never succeed under our AD.  He is profoundly incompetent, and incapable of judging talent.  Based on his past performance, he will hire a Slocum/Hill/Martin equivalent and then renew their contract despite underperformance.  I don't care if Geri stays or goes.  Yes, he sucks, but so will his replacement...so what difference does it make?

Slocum's teams have never played any defense. Don't know why anybody is surprised by this. He has to go. The AD is content with a loser basketball program.

Do not agree, since we joined this conference that is all we have done is shoot 3's and play defense. It has only been the past 3 season's (including this one) that we have tried to improve our 2-point game. Typical Horizon ball created by Butler. With the Bulldogs gone, we have changed our game a bit; much more fun to watch.

This team is getting worse by the game. They always get worse as the season goes on. Typical Slocum. We may win only one or two games the rest of the season
