Valley Football Players of the Week - Oct. 31

(1/4) > >>

IAA Fan:
This week's Missouri Valley Football Conference players of the week feature four who helped their teams to road wins this past Saturday. RB King Frazier and LB Nick DeLuca helped NDSU to a 35-29 win at Southern Illinois; PK Jay Carlson connected on 4 FGs in SDSU's win at Missouri State; and LB Lee Wright helped the Penguins knock off No. 23 Western Illinois in Macomb.

Offense
RB King Frazier, North Dakota State, 5-11, 213, Jr., Greenwood (Mo.) Lee’s Summit High
Frazier rushed 16 times for a career-high 177 yards and one touchdown in North Dakota State’s 35-29 win at Southern Illinois. He scored on a 50-yard sprint on the first play of the fourth quarter and added a 51-yard run to set up NDSU’s final score. Frazier also had a 41-yard run in the game and averaged 11.1 yards per carry as the Bison rushed for a season-high 397 yards.

Defense
LB Nick DeLuca, North Dakota State, 6-3, 244, Jr., Omaha (Neb.) Millard North High
DeLuca made a career-high 20 tackles including four solo stops in North Dakota State’s 35-29 win at Southern Illinois. He was in on one tackle for loss and had one pass breakup as NDSU’s defense limited the league’s top-rated offense to a season-low 398 yards of total offense and 121 rushing yards.

Special Teams
PK Jay Carlson, South Dakota State, 6-1, 210, Sr., Parkville (Mo.) Park Hill South
Carlson set a career high with four field goals in South Dakota State’s 39-0 win at Missouri State. Three of Carlson’s field goals were from 40-plus yards – two from 41 yards and a career-long 47-yarder – with his first field goal of the game coming from 34 yards. He became the first Jackrabbit kicker since Parker Douglass in a four-overtime game at Western Illinois in 2007 to kick four field goals in a game. By going 4-for-5 on field goals – he missed a 49-yarder on the final play of the first half – Carlson improved to 12-of-17 on field-goal attempts this season.

Newcomer
LB Lee Wright, Youngstown State, 6-1, 215, So., York (S.C.) High/Appalachian State
Wright had a career-high 14 tackles, 13 of which were solo stops as the Penguins won at Western Illinois 23-21. He also had a sack for a three-yard loss. YSU held WIU to just 260 yards of total offense, including just 106 on the ground.

Great Job Lee
Just wish our LB's were 244lbs like NDSU instead of 215lbs like ours!
Wish our RB's or at least one was 230lbs instead of 180 lbs like ours too!

IAA Fan:
Good points Go. Although you have to admit that Ruiz and Moore have the hit of a 230-pounder. Unfortunately Moore has been out all year and Martin has not yet been able to give 100%

Penguin Nation:
Would be nice to give Ruiz a break in the second half of the MO St game hopefully, and most of the starters for that matter.

We should seriously consider holding Ruiz out of the game entirely.  If Webb and Hymes aren't enough to beat MSU, then we lose.
