The State of MBB, Part Two

Wick250:
Does not Slocum's contract expire after this season?  Most of us expect that he will then retire.  Correct?  Under these circumstances, it is perfectly natural for his assistants to scramble for their futures.  It is extremely unlikely that a new coach would retain them.  But as Nation noted, leaving after a trip to the Bahamas is, well, ....you fill in the blank.

Neither Strollo nor Tressel can state this publicly, but we lack the resources to make a serious effort to win in both football and men's basketball.  If dire circumstances force us to grant FCOA to football players, the sums available for basketball will dwindle even more.  That is the reality that should be presented to a young, super-ambitious new coach.  Here is your chance to make a reputation for yourself in the Horizon League, but you must do so with the worst resources in the league.  But make this team competitive, and the road to better jobs will be paved for you.

Personally, if we can restore football to prominence, continue to evolve the women's basketball program, and enjoy success in select Olympic sports, I am good with that.  The fact that men's basketball is abysmal tends to obscure the fact that we have won more Horizon League championships in the past two academic years (11) than any other school.

ysuguins4:
It's too bad they have to go through the season with a lame duck coach, but at least JS will be gone at the end of the season.

IAA Fan:
I still hope coach S stays. If not, Wernicki should take command. I mean one of those two left for a HS job ...does than not show you how little an assistant at mid-major makes? There is enough money for one solid assistant ...that is all.

ucfpengbuck:
Either commit to make the program competitive or drop down to D2.
