- #47 Jack
Green ( -Nov. 21, 1939) Jack Green was a two-time letterwinner at wide
receiver during the 1938-39 seasons. A native of East High School, Green played under
legendary coach Dwight "Dike" Beede. Green played on the first two YSU football
teams in school history.
Green passed away because of a severe case of strep throat in the days after
YSUs 46-0 victory over Westminster College and before the end of the regular season.

Hopkins (July 30, 1974-Jan. 28, 1996) Jermaine Hopkins was a four-year
letterwinner for the Penguins from 1992 to 1995. He was a key contributor on the 1993 and
1994 national championship squads and guided the Penguins to 41 wins during his playing
career.
- #79 Jim Zdelar (May
24, 1966-Feb. 1, 1993) Jim Zdelar was an outstanding two-year performer for
the Penguins from 1987-88. He was named to the Ohio Valley Conference second-team in 1987
and was named the schools Big Mac Offensive Lineman of the Year.
In 1988, Jim graded out over 85 percent in all 11 games, including over 90
percent four times, earning him first-team All-America honors by the Associated Press.
The National Football League came after Zdelar in 1989, getting drafted in
the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins.
His memory lives on today at YSU with the weight room dedicated to his honor.
