DII:

The Penguins began NCAA Division II football in 1973. They were an independent until joining the Mid-Continent Conference in 1977. The Penguins made the post-season in 1974, 1978 and 1979. In 1979, YSU football played in it's first championship and bowl-game, in the Zia Bowl vs. Delaware. The Penguins fell to the Blue Hens, 35-14. Click here to see the Penguins all-time Post-Season game history. The Penguins played Division II ball until 1981, when the team moved up to NCAA Division I-AA.

I-AA:

The Penguins began NCAA Division I-AA football in 1981. The team was member of the Ohio Valley Conference through 1988. YSU won the OVC crown in 1987. This has been the only division I conference title for the Mighty 'guins. Although, their post-season record ... speaks for itself. YSU remainined a I-AA independent until 1997, when the team became of member of the Gateway Football Conference ... where it remains today.

The following is a collection of NCAA, Division I-AA, Conference, Team and individual post-season records for the Youngstown State University Penguins (we would like to extend our thanks to the YSU Sports Information Department for their contribution):
