YSU Sweeps Horizon League's Weekly Awards

Indianapolis -- Youngstown State freshmen Olivia Arnold and Kelly Reese swept the Horizon League's weekly swimming and diving honors for their performances against Cleveland State, Ohio and Akron, the League announced Tuesday.
This marks the first time the Penguins have ever swept the award in the Horizon League, and Arnold and Reese become the first YSU athletes to earn the honors this season.
Arnold, a native of Rutherglen, Australia, won three individual events against CSU on Thursday as the Penguins beat the Vikings in a dual meet for the first time since joining the Horizon League. She claimed victories in the 1,000 free (10:49.71), the 500 free (5:14.95) and the 200 IM (2:16.51), and her time in the 500 free was a personal-best mark and ranks second in school history. On Friday against Ohio and Akron, she swam the second-best 1,000-yard freestyle time in school history (10:49.57) and added a personal-best time in the 100 breast (1:13.04).
Reese, a Canfield, Ohio, native, swept the diving events against the Vikings with a personal-best score of 241.70 in the 1-meter for and a tally of 222.90 in the 3-meter. She followed that by placing third in the 3-meter and fourth in the 1-meter against Ohio and Akron on Friday.
 
 
Penguins Top Cleveland State 118-116 in Horizon League Dual

Youngstown -- Olivia Arnold won three individual events while Kelly Reese swept the diving events as Youngstown State defeated Cleveland State 118-116 Thursday evening at the Beeghly Natatorium.
The win against the Vikings was the first for the Penguins since joining the Horizon League in the 2001-02 season. Cleveland State has also finished one spot above YSU at the Horizon League Championship the past two years.
Arnold claimed victories in the 1,000 free (10:49.71), the 500 free (5:14.95) and the 200 IM (2:16.51) to score 27 points. Reese posted a personal-best score of 241.70 in the 1-meter for the win and added a tally of 222.90 in the 3-meter. Brittany Senn added a victory in the 50 free with a time of 25.26.
Julia Darling finished second in the 200 breast (2:33.11) and third in the 200 IM (2:18.17) while Natasha Bray was second in the 1,000 free (11:12.01) and fourth in the 500 free (5:30.27). Jessica Front added a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.65 while Cortney Harless and Amanda Zhelesnik finished second in the 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively.
The Penguins and Vikings will compete one more time before the conference meet on Feb. 4 at CSU.
YSU will travel to Akron to take on the Zips and Ohio tomorrow at 5 p.m.
