Penguins Sweep Double-Dual Over St. Francis (Pa.), Niagara

Youngstown -- Erin Carter earned two individual victories while Lena Arens and Becky Bertuzzi picked up one win as the Youngstown State swimming and diving team earned wins over St. Francis (Pa.) and Niagara on Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Natatorium.
Carter won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 2.41 seconds and the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.00. Arens finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.08 while Bertuzzi tallied her first collegiate win in the 200 butterfly in 2:24.92.
YSU also claimed the top spot in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:50.12.
Jordan Dunn earned a second-place finishes in the 1,650 freestyle and the 500 freestyle while Lauren Connolly finished second in the 200 freestyle. Danielle Blagg added a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke and Arens finished second in the 100 freestyle.
Kalyn Leveto picked up exhibition wins in the one and three-meter diving events.
The Penguins will play host to Akron University on Jan. 17 at 1 p.m.
 
 
Carter Sets 400 IM Record at Duquesne

Pittsburgh -- Junior Erin Carter broke the school record in the 400-yard individual medley with a first-place time of 4 minutes, 44.28 seconds as the Youngstown State swimming team fell to Duquesne 111-88 on Saturday afternoon.
Carter's time topped junior Jordan Dunn's record-time that she recorded at the 2003 Horizon League Championship.
Lena Arens picked up a victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.34 while Danielle Blagg earned a win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.78.
Carter also finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.11 and Dunn finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.98.
Erika Gregos, Becky Bertuzzi, Katy Malys, Missy Wiese, Amanda Howard and Dunn all earned third-place finishes for the Penguins.
The Penguins will play host to Niagara and St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.
 
 
Carter Named Athlete of the Week

Indianapolis -- Junior swimmer Erin Carter was named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. Carter won three events against Radford this past weekend and broke a 19-year-old school record in the 200-yard individual medley. The Penguins defeated the Highlanders 153-143.
