Senn Wins Three Events in 132-109 Victory Over Denison

Youngstown -- Brittany Senn won two individual events and anchored Youngstown State's winning 200-yard freestyle relay as YSU defeated Denison 132-109 Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Natatorium.
Kelly Reese, Olivia Arnold and Julia Darling also picked up two victories for the Penguins against the Big Red, who competed with a split squad at both YSU and Duquesne.
Senn won the 50 free with a time of 25.29 and the 100 free in 55.16. She teamed up with Leigh Bareman, Jessica Front and Erin-Michelle Gordon in the 200 free relay.
Reese won the 3-meter board with a collegiate-best score of 241.30 and the 1-meter with a tally of 230.15. Arnold won the 1,000 free (10:49.40) and the 500 free (5:19.45), and Darling picked up wins in the 200 IM (2:16.36) and the 200 breast (2:30.88). Becky Bertuzzi added a win in the 200 free (2:01.37) to complete YSU's sweep in the freestyle events.
Cortney Harless earned second-place finishes in both diving events while Front added a second-place finish in the 200 free (2:01.89). Bareman finished second in the 50 free (25.49), and Natasha Bray placed second in the 200 back (2:27.06).
The Penguins will play host to California (Pa.) on Friday at 5 p.m.
 
 
Arnold Wins Three Events, Sets School Record at Akron

Akron, Ohio -- Freshman Olivia Arnold won three events and set the school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle as Youngstown State fell to Akron 163-122 on Saturday in its first meet of the new year.
Arnold swam a time of 10:42.71 in the 1,000 free to break Jordan Dunn's record of 10:43.86 that was recorded last year. Arnold also picked up wins in the 500 free (5:17.21) and the 200 IM (2:17.31).
Sophomore Brittany Senn won both sprint freestyle events with a time of 25.26 in the 50 and a 54.52 in the 100. The 200 free relay of Senn, Jessica Front, Julia Darling and Leigh Bareman picked up YSU's only other victory.
Darling was just .01 seconds behind her own school record in the 100 breast with a second-place time of 1:08.47, and she added a second-place finish in the 200 breast (2:30.52). Front placed second in the 200 free (2:01.13) and the 500 free (5:23.81) while Senn added a second-place finish in the 100 fly (1:01.95). Natasha Bray finished second in the 200 IM (2:24.21), and Kelly Reese led the diving squad with a second-place finish in the 3-meter with a score of 226.95.
YSU's swimming squad will compete at St. Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 21, and both squads will take on Denison on Jan. 28 at the Beeghly Natatorium.
