Youngstown, Ohio – Youngstown State Head Coach Tisha Hill announced on Tuesday (June 8) the addition of assistant coaches Alvis Rogers and Stacy Krueger (pronounced KREE-ger) to the YSU women’s basketball staff.
Rogers, who has coaching stints in the Big East and the Atlantic-10 Conferences, brings eight years of intercollegiate coaching experience to the Penguin staff and most recently served as the boys’ basketball head coach at Seton LaSalle High School in Pittsburgh, Pa.
“We are very fortunate to add someone to our staff with Alvis’ knowledge of the game and success as both a player and coach,” Hill said. “His energy, enthusiasm and work ethic will be contagious and will be very beneficial to our post players.”
Prior to his stay at Seton LaSalle, Rogers spent the 2002-03 campaign as an assistant coach at Pittsburgh, working primarily with the post players.
Before joining the Panthers, Rogers spent six seasons (1996-2002) at Duquesne, where he was responsible for recruiting, game preparation, scouting, film editing and coaching both the guards and post players. He was also an assistant academic coordinator for athletics at Duquesne from 1994-96.
Rogers’ intercollegiate coaching career began in 1993-94 as an assistant coach at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C.
A 1991 graduate of Wake Forest, Rogers earned Freshman All-America honors in 1978-79 and was the runner-up for the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year. Rogers, a sixth-round selection by the Kansas City Kings in the 1983 National Basketball Association Amateur Draft, led the Demon Deacons to two NCAA Tournament appearances and to the semifinals of the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) and was named team captain during the 1982-83 season.
Rogers also gained international basketball experience playing professionally in Australia, Sweden, Greece, Belgium and Ireland between 1984 and 1988.
Krueger, a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at Horizon League member UW-Green Bay, joins the Penguins staff after a one-year stint as the Director of Basketball Operations at Northern Illinois. In that capacity, Krueger coordinated the team’s travel plans and handled correspondence.
While at UWGB, Krueger helped the Phoenix to the 1998 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Tournament title and a berth to the NCAA Tournament. She played in 117 career games and scored 683 points while dishing out 277 assists with 120 steals.
“We are very excited to add Stacy to our Penguin family,” Hill said. “She knows what it takes to win in this League and definitely has the enthusiasm and work ethic it takes to be successful. Stacy has been under two very successful coaches and has a wealth of knowledge for the game from both programs.
“Having coached her one year myself, I know that this is definitely one of the up and coming coaches of our profession. I am very pleased to have her as part of my staff.”
Rogers will primarily work with the YSU post players while Krueger will coach the backcourt. Both will begin their duties immediately.
